weekend wrap-up

it's been a nice weekend. although a little different without the walters' being around. we already miss them! on friday, i took ella to her cousin's 5 year old pretend sleepover birthday party where she just couldn't grasp the fact that she wasn't going to actually sleep at grace's house. but it was lots of fun. (ella is on the right in the photo). and we got lots of much needed yardwork done yesterday. we've always said that the previous owners must have been working in their yard every weekend to keep it up the way they did...we have just not been able to maintain their standard. there is a huge bed in our front yard of plants and trees and who knows what. the "who knows what" has taken over and so my hubby attacked it this weekend. there were weeds growing in there that looked like trees, literally. and then after a long morning of church and lunch today, we had our friends over for dinner...it was her birthday so it was fun to celebrate with her.

throughout the weekend i would jump on and off the computer whenever i had time to look through all the homes that participated in Boomama's Tour of Homes. i was amazed that over 200 people jumped on the band wagon. i think i've only gotten through 90 so far but i really want to finish looking. i've really enjoyed seeing all different kinds of houses all over the country and some in other countries. it's been great to see so many different styles and decor. i was also amazed that i got over 40 comments on my tour! thanks so much for all of you who looked and said such nice things about my home. you know, i was a little worried about participating. i was thinking that it was just going to make me envious of what i would see...which is a constant struggle i have...especially when it comes to houses. there will always be a bigger, much better decorated, nicer house than mine. but surprisingly, it just made me more grateful for what God has blessed me with. i love our house and feel so fortunate to have what we have. we have a super, private yard and perfect amount of space for our family. we have everything we need to function in our house. and i have a husband and 2 kids that make this house a home. the memories that are made here are dear to my heart. i'm often complaining about my ugly stenciled bathroom or the ugly kitchen backsplash or how we need new carpet and how i wish our bonus room bathroom was finished or how i would love to have hardwood floors, etc etc. but i was reminded this weekend, that i have been given everything i need...and so much more than many people in this world will ever have. and i was also reminded that this world is not really my home. my real home is to come and instead of desiring more temporary things that i think will make me happy here...i should long to be home with my God where life will be SO much sweeter. i'll probably need that reminder again tomorrow!

so that about wraps up my weekend and my thoughts for now. off to bed.

After that "long morning of church and lunch," Mason slept until 5:30! I couldn't believe it - he made it through the transfer to the car and then the transfer to his bed!

What a blessing your neighbors/friends must have been and I know ya'll are all broken-hearted to see them go. Here's to hoping the new neighbors will be the beginnings of another friendship.

I struggle with that too when looking at houses sometimes, but I still just love to look & look & get ideas. I am very grateful for our home, too, it's just so tempting to want "new" everything!
